So you are planning a vacation, good for you. We all need a little time away. If you are like me, you have spent some time getting into shape. And I don't want to throw it all away with booze and food. Don't get me wrong, I will be having some treats.
How Can I Stay Healthy On Vacation
* Start lunch or supper with a side salad. You wont want to eat more when you are full. With the salad, get oil dressings on the side and stay clear from creamy dressings.
*Find a Steakhouse. Yes, a steakhouse. They grill their steak, chicken and seafood. A Steakhouse has great healthy sides like steamed veggies and baked potatoes. Most also have salad bars full of tasty veggies and fruit. Remember what I said about the dressing.
*Ask the waiter to take the bread off the table
*If you have a choice to buffet or dinning room, choose the dinning room. There will be less temptation to grab everything in sight. You will also be able to ask for half portions or app size and how you would like your meal prepared. You can ask for no added oils, salt, butter, or sugar. If there is a Spa Menu or a lunch menu available, look at it.
* Ask for more veggies! Ask your server for extra veggies and you will pay for it. 9 times out of 10 they wont charge you. Also ask to sub the carb for more veggies.
*When in doubt - fruits and veggies
*Mix up your meals. If you know you want to go all out for supper that night, have a light breakfast. Or have a big breakfast and eat light for the rest of the day.
* Food is everywhere! Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
*Split deserts with someone. Enjoy that chocolate cake, just share it. Other deserts are fruit. While you are away the fruit is so fresh and good.
*Take a piece of fruit from breakfast and take it with you for the day. Don't just 3 meals, make sure you get some snacks in there too.
*Good key words for foods - Steamed, Broiled, Charbroiled, Grilled, Poached, Roasted, Stir Fried, Tomato Sauce, Marina Sauce
Stay away from - Fried, Crispy, Sauteed, Breaded, Creamy/Creamed, Au Gratin, Buttery, Alfredo Sauce, Cheese or Meat Sauce
*I know, I know. You chose that all inclusive resort for a reason. The BOOZE!!!! I am not saying don't drink. Just watch how much you are drinking and what it is you are drinking. Its something we can all over do. I plan on maybe one drink a day. I want to be up and fresh and ready to go for the next day. Get some water in there between drinks.
